Cypress Announces Full Production of 3.3V Neuron Chips for Building Automation and Industrial Control Networks; Low-Power Controllers Network LonWorks-Based Sensors and Actuators

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 17, 2004— Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY) today announced volume production of its new 3.3V Neuron(R) chips for LonWorks(R) devices. Cypress's CY7C53120L8 and CY7C53150L controller chips enable sensors and actuators used in LonWorks-based industrial control and building automation applications to be networked and connected to the Internet. The new low-power devices deliver up to two times the memory of 5V pin-compatible alternatives while reducing power consumption by 33 percent.

Cypress's new Neuron devices include a hardware-based serial communications interface (UART) and serial peripheral interface (SPI) engine that is scalable to 2.5 Mbps, and a programmable low-voltage inhibitor (LVI). The CY7C53120L8 features 16 KBytes of ROM, 4 KBytes of RAM and 8 KBytes of internal EEPROM memory and is offered in 32-pin SOIC and 44-pin TQFP packages. The CY7C53150L incorporates 4 KBytes of RAM and 2.7 KBytes of EEPROM memory and uses an external memory interface that can address up to 56 KBytes. It is available in a 64-pin TQFP package. Both devices feature three eight-bit pipelined processors that enable concurrent processing of application code and network traffic at speeds of up to 20 MHz. They also offer in-system programming via an 11-pin configurable I/O block and a flexible five-pin communications port that can be configured to interface with a variety of 5V and 3.3V media transceivers over a wide range of data rates. Additionally, both are supported by Echelon Corporation's (Nasdaq:ELON) NodeBuilder(R) 3.1 Development Tool.

Pricing

Cypress's CY7C53120L8 solution is priced at $3.80 and the CY7C53150L is priced at $3.10 in 10,000-unit quantities. Both products are available today by contacting your local Cypress sales representative or visiting Cypress online at www.cypress.com.
